What is IPL
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that uses light energy to target various skin imperfections like sunspots, redness, and broken capillaries, and is also used for hair removal. Unlike a laser, which uses a single wavelength, IPL employs a broad spectrum of light wavelengths to treat multiple conditions simultaneously by targeting specific pigments in the skin.

How it works
IPL for DRY EYE Therapy
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is an advanced, non-invasive treatment for evaporative dry eye caused by Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). MGD is a common condition where the oil-producing glands in your eyelids become blocked or dysfunctional, leading to a poor-quality tear film, increased evaporation, and inflammation of the ocular surface.

IPL therapy is recommended to:
* Improve meibomian gland function
* Reduce eyelid and ocular surface inflammation
* Stabilize the tear film
* Relieve symptoms like burning, dryness, irritation, and fluctuating vision
How IPL Works
IPL treatment involves applying pulses of broad-spectrum light to the skin around the lower eyelids and upper cheeks. It addresses dry eye disease in several key ways:

✅ Reduces Inflammation
IPL closes abnormal blood vessels (telangiectasia) that feed inflammation around the eyelids and ocular surface.
✅ Improves Meibomian Gland Function
The light gently warms the eyelid area, helping to melt thickened oils and restore normal gland secretion.
✅ Decreases Bacteria & Demodex Mites
IPL helps reduce the presence of skin and eyelid bacteria and mites that worsen blepharitis and gland blockage.
✅ Supports Long-Term Eye Health
Studies show IPL may also stimulate collagen remodeling and cellular activity that supports healthier eyelid tissue and gland function over time.

What to Expect During Treatment
Series of 4 treatments, spaced 2–4 weeks apart
Each session takes approximately 10–15 minutes
A cool gel is applied to the treatment area, and eye protection is worn
Most patients describe the treatment as mildly warm or like a quick snap of a rubber band
Minimal downtime—you can return to normal activities right after
Improvements are often noticed after the second or third session, with full benefits seen after the full treatment course
Maintenance & Follow-Up
To maintain results, some patients may benefit from annual or semi-annual maintenance treatments, depending on symptom recurrence and gland function.
